John Firsching Pinetum

There are no native pine trees to Kansas, so they tend to suffer more than most trees from insect, fungus and weather-related problems. At Botanica, our Pinetum (pronounced pie-NEE-tum) was established to display a variety of pine specimens, and, hopefully increase the diversity of pines that will grow in south-central Kansas. There are currently 15 species of pines growing in our collection. Additionally, in the spring, the hillside of the PInetum is filled with daffodils, hyacinth and creeping phlox. A collection of lavender has also been established in this garde, which fills the air with fragrance throughout the year.
